Sorry for the delay this week on getting the board up, it was actually almost finished, but I went on a little road trip on Friday. Then yesterday, I finished up the board in the morning, went out to the greenhouse, started planting things, and then stepped on a NAIL!!! So the rest of the day involved a lot of sitting around with a little hobbling. Anyways, I am really excited about the quilt design, I am working it up into a pattern and will be making one for my mom! Well, have a great rest of the weekend... 

Sketchboard #16

I really loved how the swatches were laid out in the swatch board, which is what inspired this color wheel pin wheel design. All fabrics are Robert Kaufman's 

Kona Cottons (click the link to see all 219 colors). I am really thinking about making this quilt and writing up a tutorial for it. Here is what the quilt is using: the dark gray that is Charcoal with the lighter gray being Ash, now in order starting with the yellow pinwheel (going clockwise around the quilt) Canary; Papaya; Coral; Cardinal; Pomegranate; Medium Pink; Cerise; Berry; Eggplant; Nightfall; Lake; Cyan; Jungle; Chartreuse; Lime; Moss; Stone; Espresso; Sable; Chocolate; Bone; and Coal. I thought this quilt would make a great lap quilt and could easily be adjusted in size by adding more pinwheels (colors to the color wheel). Once I came up with the concept for the quilt, I thought it would be fun to add a few pillows: Pillow #1 uses 4 pinwheels that are right next to each in the color wheel (in this case, Canary, Papaya, Coral & Cardinal). Pillow #2 uses colors that are around the same value (like lights or dark, etc), in this case I picked: Pomegranate, Lime, Cerise & Cyan. Both pillows would be bordered with Charcoal and finished sizes of 18" x 18". By using all solids this would be a great way to feature the quilting on the quilt or even do some hand quilting. 

 Here are a few other things that I think would look awesome in solids not just prints and give you room to add plenty of embellishments (like embroidery, yo-yos, flowers, etc.):

(just as a little note, I have not tried out these patterns, they are ones that I would like to have or think would look good in the featured fabric lines.)

I really must say, I liked putting this one together and now it makes me want to get some of this fabric so I can make the little doll quilt just for fun! The clothing in my head would be for girls sized 2T-14, put I could see the shorts and top being in women's sizes as well.

 I have actually been getting a little bit of sewing done, when x has been napping (if he decides to take one, then I try and do some speed sewing since his naps are only about 50 minutes in length) So far I have finished two pillowcases, a block and a half done for my quilt guild meeting on Thursday, and almost have a new shirt finished up. In other fun news, yesterday my cousin and her husband came down for a quick little visit. I had a lot of fun chatting with them and has anyone seen the new foodnetwork magazine out.. We are looking for it... well have a fun rest of sunday I have a few projects to get out of the way!

Sketchboard #1

I really loved the fabrics from last Wednesday's swatch board (note: for information on fabrics and where to get them click here for the post) Anyways, in the future I will get up the sketch board on Friday, but with all the Easter festivities and the rush of projects I am trying to get done, it fell by the wayside.
